Netflix was already using an algorithm called cinematch to predict a customer's rating. Netflix created the $1m contest and awarded it to a developer but i don't believe they ever actually. I've clicked dislike on all bollywood movies i see (reading in the past that this helps with the algorithm) but netflix still throws me a bunch of these films that its getting annoying.
